We are so excited to be hosting another Adventure Camp at Dwarsvlei Guest Farm.

Take this opportunity to give your children a once-in-a-lifetime Karoo adventure this December holiday. Dwarsvlei Farm is a guest farm and function venue, home to the Ride the Karoo and Run the Karoo stage races.

Dwarsvlei is teaming up with a trained camp counselor and education enthusiast to develop an adventure camp for children between the ages of 9 and 14 to explore all the amazing activities and adventures that a Karoo Farm has to offer. We aim to create an unforgettable experience with a focus on wholesome fun and exploration.

A little bit about Dwarsvlei and the facilities:

Dwarsvlei is a unique Karoo farm that has recently been converted into a venue and guest house. The farm boasts beautiful veld, a spectacular mountain, cycle tracks, fossil, and history-rich surrounds, as well as an exciting poplar forest to explore. The farm is located 10 minutes outside of Middelburg, Eastern Cape – just 45minutes away from Graaf Reinet and an hour from Cradock.

The Dwarsvlei venue has dormitory accommodation for our campers in the Nourse Shed. Boys and girls will be separated into different sections of the shed with a counselor allocated to stay with each group. The shed is well lit and each child will receive a bed with a mattress and an area to pack their belongings. The ablutions are right next to the dormitory.

The camp venue has a dining area, kitchen, and plenty of space for fun activities and crafts. We have recently installed a swimming dam which will be strictly monitored by a counselor and only opened when there is allocated swim time.

There is limited cellphone reception at Dwarsvlei making it the perfect opportunity for children
to unplug and enjoy the outdoors. Kids will be daily access to wifi reception to allow them to connect with family and share some of the fun that they have been having. Counselors will have constant connectivity through wifi and radios.

Some of the activities that will be included:

  • Camp out in the veld
  • Hike up Renosteberg
  • Water slide
  • Capture the flag in the poplar forest
  • Stalk the lantern
  • Obstacle Courses
  • Star Gazing
  • Treasure hunt
  • Fossil Hunting
  • Stories and smores around the campfire
  • Arts & crafts

The program will start at 7:00 am every morning and allow for a lunchtime rest during the heat of the Karoo day.

A little bit about the Councillors:

The camp logistics will be handled by Sarah van Lingen, owner of the Dwarsvlei Function venue, whilst the program will be coordinated by Julia Durr and her team. The camper-to-counselor ratio will be no more than 6 campers – 1 counselor. Sarah holds a Masters in environmental education from Rhodes University, has worked at Children in the Wilderness camps for three December seasons as well as worked for Coaching for Conservation education activity programs in Grahamstown for two years. Julia is a trained camp counselor and has worked as a program coordinator at Sugar Bay Camp in KwaZulu Natal for several December Camp seasons. In 2020 she was involved in running a school for the local kids in the Karoo area. Julia is passionate about education and creating fun environments for children to learn and thrive.

R3 200 per child for 3 nights and 4 days.
Included: Accommodation, food (three meals a day and two snacks), activities and crafts.

An indemnity form, medical form, detailed program as well as a detailed packing list will be sent to you in mid-November to ensure that you know exactly what to pack for your happy campers as well as what they will be up to each day.

We look forward to this week of fun and adventure.
