Learn more about our Rustic Karoo Accommodation

The Wild Olive Mountain Cottage is a rustic, basic hikers cottage on Renosterberg. It has no electricity and very basic amenities. What it lacks in luxury it makes up for in its beautiful setting. Guests can enjoy stunning views over the Karoo koppies surrounded by nothing but the natural veld. This is a hiker’s, runner’s and mountain biker’s dream, set right on the trails that loop around Dwarsvlei farm. There is intermittent reception, making it the perfect place to sit back and relax, enjoying the slow life of the Karoo.

We have recently renovated 12 historic horse stables. Dwarsvlei used to be a world-renowned horse stud and at one point housed 200 broodmares. Beautifully adorned horse stables were built out of the finest wood and chiselled stoned for these horses. Approximately 200 years later these stables have been stored and repaired with new isolation, glass and cement floors. Each stable has electricity and two single beds. Guests will be required to bring their own bedding, but a mattress and sheet will be provided. These stables share the ablutions and cooking and washing facilities with the campers. The newly built ablutions are not more than 100 m away. If you are looking for something unique and rustic, but don’t quite enjoy the idea of camping, then this is the accommodation for you.

Finally, we have camping facilities available at Dwarsvlei for those adventurous souls who would like to spend the night under the stars. The poplar forest provides a sheltered area for campers to set up camp within close proximity to the ablution and washing facilities. Come and camp in the Karoo and experience the stillness of the Karoo night sky.
